Dear Families,
What a great week! It has been wonderful to welcome back staff and students and embark on the 2024-25 school year together. As teachers establish routines and expectations in their classrooms, we have been able to get to know our students in their new spaces and see them engage in learning.
Parents and guardians, please remember to log into your MyCBE account to complete the annual school forms. We ask that those be done by Sept 13, 2024. It is very important these are up to date and complete. Also, if you want to give permission for your older student to walk home on their own or another responsible adult pick up your student, please complete and return the paper form to your child’s teacher.
At Patrick Airlie School we work with each student to be the best that they can be. We support both their academic and social development, challenging them to do their best and treat others with respect. Being the Patrick Airlie Wolves, I am challenging all students to be part of the PACK – Polite, Active Learners, Curious and Kind. This aligns with the CBE’s Code of Conduct that we use to support student behaviour and well-being. This document requires students to build positive relationships, demonstrate care for themselves and others, celebrate the diversity in our school and engage in safe behaviour and ask for help when it is needed.
A reminder that any student with a personal mobile device is expected to keep it “Away for the Day” in their backpack, on silent. This aligns with CBE policy and Alberta government orders. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to inquire.
Lunch will be 12:15-1:00pm for this school year. Bell times are once again, Monday to Thursday, 8:20am-3:13pm and Friday, 8:20am-12:00pm.
If you have any questions or concerns, we ask that parents first reach out to their child’s classroom teacher for support. If needed, the teacher will include administration in the conversation as support. We encourage families to engage in open communication and be active members of our school community.
Some notices and reminders for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up routines.
In the morning:
- There will be supervisors outside starting at 8:10am.
- Doors will open for students to filter in beginning at 8:15am.
- Students can spend time with friends or play on the playground, until the 8:15am bell.
- Kindergarten to grade 4 enter through the playground doors.
- Grade 5 and 6 students enter through the parking lot doors.
For pick-up at the end of the day:
- We ask that families do not come on school property, rather stay by the parking lot or front gates.
- Staff will be there to radio teachers to send your child over for pick-up.
- Safety is a significant concern for both drop-off and pick-up, so we ask that families observe the rules of the road, watch for students who are walking and ensure that they are making safe decisions.
- Kindergarten students dismiss through the front door.
- Grade 1-4 will exit the playground doors and wait on the field for their pickup.
- Grade 5 and 6 dismiss through the parking lot doors.
- If you want your older student walking home or an older sibling walking home your younger child, please ensure the Walking Home form is sent back to school.
Have a safe and restful long weekend. Classes resume on Tuesday for grade 1-6 at 8:20am. Kindergarten students will continue their staggered entry schedule on Tuesday.
All the best,
Mary-Elizabeth Kaiser
